Be it life or death, we crave only reality. -Henry David Thoreau

General Information

Name: Chloe Caoimhe Chevalier.
Age: 16.
Birthday: June 20.
House/Year: Wampus | 6th year.
Blood type: Halfblood.
Wand: Phoenix Feather, Beech, 8”.
Amortensia: Dusty books associated with bookshops/libraries, clean sweat after a hard run, strawberry rhubarb anything, the sweet-tart scent of baked apples and cinnamon, fresh paint, and something fresh, but spicy.
Patronus: N/A.

Place of Birth: Northern Ireland.
Home: When away from school, East Haven, VT.
Spoken Languages: English, a little bit of Gaelic.
Unspoken Languages: Irish Sign Language and British Sign Language. English Sign Language (proficient, not entirely fluent.)
Allergies: Allergic to shellfish. She has a strong allergic reaction to any shellfish and must take precautions to never ingest it.

Appearance

[INSERT PIC?]

Eyes: Blue.
Hair: Blue with green-blue highlights.
Height: 5’1".
Complexion: Light tan/pale.

Dress Style: Quirky and unusual. She dresses up in a fashion that is to the drum of her own weird beat. It’s all comfortable to her. She’s willing and capable of wearing a dress or workout clothes with the same confidence.

General Appearance:
She is slender and stands at a little over five foot flat. Weighing in at 116 lbs, she shares many features with Cian though they are not identical twins. Their differences are in their personalities and particularly how others reflect on her appearance vice his. Her skin isn’t merely pale, but sun-warmed. Her wide, expressive, blue eyes pull people in and her smile is infectious. Though she was born with naturally dark brown, wavy locks, she’s recently dyed her hair blue with blue-green highlights that underscores the intensity of her eyes. Occasionally, she wears spectacles for classwork.

She’s distracting without trying.

Puberty has been kind. Though she does not cut a voluptuous figure, her voice is another matter. Chloe’s voice has all of the soft, melodic lilting of the Irish and she has a penchant for using it often albeit quietly. This does not detract from her respect and preservation of the deaf culture at home. She embraces her sibling’s differences as wildly and hard as she partakes in her own. Fluent in sign language, she’s quick to translate for her siblings and doesn’t mind the constant interpreting. Her fingers are nimble and quick in writing, signing, and her spellwork.

Personality

On the corner of leading and domineering, her personality is very loud. In a room, as if to deter anyone from bothering Cian, she draws, nay demands attention. She’s unafraid of being at the center of attention. She disseminates commands easily, conveying her ideas fluently through a mix of her outgoing personality, flowing hand signs, and verbiage.

Sneaky and quiet. Inherently, her appearance and personality are all that’s loud about Chloe. Most everything else she does is at a low decibel as she’s accustomed to a quiet household. Since her siblings acquired hearing aids, she’s been more conscientious of undue noise that seems to bug them.

Helpful. Chloe loves being helpful. In any video game, she’s the support. With her family, she goes out of her way to be considerate. If anyone asks her for a glass of water, no matter how much it might interfere with what she’s doing currently, she’ll grab it for them without complaint. Negative: Good Intentions. On the flip side, Chloe's penchant for meaning well seems to rub everyone wrong somehow. (I wish I could say how exactly this happens, but it's pretty natural to write her like that!)

On deaf culture: positive, supportive slant. She was initially against hearing aids as this was something their parents had never prescribed. When she saw how responsive her deaf siblings became, she thought harder on the pros and cons of the mechanism. Regardless, she is active supporter of the deaf/mute community. She will never force her siblings into the hearing culture’s constructs of normalcy. That said, she’s a strong advocate for them and pushes others to learn their culture rather than struggle in the hearing man’s world.

She loves spooky lore. Like sci-fi horror and Irish creatures. ANYTHING supernatural, which is great being magically-inclined. This also extends to mythological lore and how she's able to remember details about astronomy.

Adventurous. She loves coaxing Cian into doing new things, trying new stuff. “Life is compiled of experiences, Cian.” To live life to its fullest, one must be willing to take risks.

Prone to tantrums. Where Cian is even-tempered, Chloe is anything but. She flips hot and cold like the Icelandic weather. It’s always substantiated, but she’s not afraid to show her discontent or the laugh wholeheartedly. Her siblings know that she’s quick to forgive if the apology is sincere and her mood will turn just as quickly back to pleasant soon enough.

Dramatic. She hyperbolizes almost to excess. Generally it’s meant to be funny, but non-family have to learn to read in between the lines to recognize that she’s being silly and not serious.

Too curious for her own good. Sometimes, Chloe sticks her nose where it does not belong. In tandem, she’s occasionally considered “prying” when she’s insistent.

Piss-poor magical ability. She’s not fantastic with most magic. She can perform Charms well enough and is more than capable of any written work and theory, but in performing practical magic, she’s obviously a poor witch. She’s very sensitive about this and dislikes others pointing it out to her, especially as she actively seeks tutoring for it. Part of the problem had been working with a broken wand. Nevertheless, she's not the strongest witch anyone's ever seen. Her strengths lie in her creativity rather than her magical prowess. Practiced spells are decent enough.

Talents/Hobbies/Skills

She’s mechanically inclined moreso than her siblings. If it was broken, she was the handywoman on the farm. Her mind is oriented for engineering and understanding how things work. Rarely does she practice reverse engineering though, she primarily focuses on new inventions or repairing the old, learning about new constructions from many of Cian’s books or her personal reading.

She extremely creative and enjoys writing, but is known for her artwork, particularly her acrylic, charcoal, watercolor, and body painting. She enjoys scrapbooking and drawing stick figures in her correspondence. She loves, loves, loves sending and receiving letters.

She has a talent for teasing information from folks and is a decent amatuer investigative reporter - her dream career. Chloe has a talent for making friends with the unlikeliest sorts. But she's definitely a hit-or-miss type. Either you love her or you hate her. Overwhelmingly, she's loved by most at the school. Unfortunately, she has a knack for being at the center of some sort of drama. She's become proficient in dealing in favors and trading her services with others.

Cardio is her best friend, when she needs to run off steam, she does it literally. She's not involved in any sports, however.

Video games, board games, reading and writing, she has much to keep her busy. And currently she's been involved in: art club, adventure club (founder), student council (rep), among her classwork. She teaches others ASL in her spare time. She's recently taken a liking to face painting and it's become a bit of a side project for her and several students where she provides their services for other clubs and school events.

She is not particularly talented with magic, however there are some tricks that she excels at. Art-related spells, in particular, she practices enough to start utilizing them non-verbally. With Cian's assistance, she's pursuing some wandless magic and is definitely interested in sign-casting.

Family & History

Father: Ardan Donovan, Biological Father, Farmer, Muggle, Deceased - She loved his eye for the stars. She was very much a daddy’s girl and misses their chats.
Edmond Chevalier, Uncle/Adoptive Father, Women and Gender Studies Professor, Muggle - She loves her uncle and constantly asks after his work and classes. When she’s home for the holidays, she’ll chat with him about it. More recently, she been forming personal opinions on feminism and how it differs in Ireland and America. However, she tends to rub him wrong and their opinions on how to handle her siblings gets her into as much trouble as it does not.
Waylon Carthe Chevalier, Uncle/Adoptive Father, 3D Animation Professor, Squib - Chloe can’t get enough of his 3D animations. She asks for his opinions on her art when she's not peeved with him.

Mother: Samantha Carthe, Mother, Farmer, Pureblood, Deceased - She loved her mother, but they had a rough relationship. Their mom didn’t hide the fact that she didn’t like how much Chloe did things for the others and would insist that she would stunt their personal growth. Chloe felt like she wasn’t doing anything wrong and was just trying to be helpful and supportive. It usually devolved into quiet fights and general avoiding each other.

Siblings: Saoirse Donovan Chevalier, Sister, 18 - Often Chloe demands something, doesn't get it, and Sao is made out to be the bad guy. While Chloe has grown up a bit, Sao is still the older sister in the relationship. They get along in patches, but they unconditionally love each other and will stand by each other if it ever comes to it. Even if Sao is wrong, Chloe will stand with her.
Cian Donovan Chevalier, Brother, 16, 6th year (Deaf) - They are two peas in a pod. Chloe loves her little bro (heh) for all of his introverted quirks and, in fact, helps to give him the room he needs from the littles. He’s capable of pulling her out of her tantrums and there’s not a time that she could recall that they’ve ever rubbed each other wrong. Chloe knows that their parents deaths have changed him, but the sudden move and attendance to school seems even more difficult. She tries to be around to provide a lifeline, but more recently she feels like she’s been missing the mark.
Kiernan Donovan Chevalier, Brother, 15, 5th year - They enjoy a close sibling friendship. Generally they get along, except when they don’t. Most of their relationship is superficial as neither is willing to open up with the other. Nevertheless, they're both Wampus.
Niamh Donovan Chevalier, Sister, 14, 4th year (Deaf) - They are, well, were super close. It helped sharing a bed growing up. Often, Chloe would go out of her way to help Niamh just like she did for Cian. When it comes to relationships, Niamh and Chloe are quick to seek each other for support. Chloe is Niamh's biggest cheerleader in matters of her happiness.
Loughlin Aiden Donovan Chevalier, 12, 2nd year | [OPINION/RELATIONSHIP]
Erin Donovan Chevalier, Sister, 11, 1st year - Chloe sends letters to Erin regularly with quirky details about the school. She's very adamant about Erin's involvement in all things and is very supportive of her being in Wampus!
Eoin Donovan Chevalier, Brother, 11, 1st year (Deaf) - He's closer to Cian than Chloe, but Chloe is still willing to speak for him and help him.
Rory Donovan Chevalier, Brother, 10, pre-Ilvermorny - She enjoys his company and speaks to him regardless of his responses (or therelackof). Of course, she leaves space for him to insert himself into the conversation or, after glancing at him, will often speak as though she already knows his answer. Around others, she’s his voice. Anything to make him feel most at ease. She adores him though generally oversteps boundaries and does a lot for him. He’s yet to complain, so she persists.
Mia Donovan Chevalier, Sister, 7, pre-Ilvermorny - Their relationship is a roller coaster of unconditional love! They love each other as much as they occasionally dislike each other.

Most of her formative years were spent on a farm in Ireland with a muggle da and a pureblood ma. Her parents thought she breathed magic. It was obvious that she took after her mother’s magical side, though in all other things, she took after her father. Nobody was surprised when the twins received their Hogwarts letters. Chloe giggled at the name; she thought it was ridiculous. When they retrieved their wands, Chloe was ecstatic about it and the thought of going to school sounded like the next big adventure she’d been seeking. Ultimately, their parents decided against formal schooling, instead, she was homeschooled.

Unlike Cian, Chloe struggled with this style of learning. Too energetic, she struggled to sit still and would pace as she read the textbooks through the house and on the farm. Frustration yielded in light of Cian’s apparent success with homeschooling (though she never held it against him.) What she needed was a different manner of processing and absorbing the material. She knew that she was better with the hands-on material, but this required extra attention paid to her. She was horrible with the practical application of magic and, for all of the wands she’d tried and this was the best fit, the wand seemed to work against her.

Sourly, Chloe wondered if her innate muggle-born abilities weren’t stronger than the magical side of her. Surfacing fears of being left behind in the wake of Cian’s successful educational progression, fed into a fear of being lost and forgotten as the near-squib plagued her at night. Her sleep schedule was messed up and would never seemed to recover.

On the bright side, she never wanted for company because her family was generally underfoot and she rarely fought for isolation because, even when she sought for peace, it was easily found alone with Cian. He’d work on a puzzle and she’d watch on, chattering away to herself as she worked on their next big adventure.

Chloe’s heart was huge and accommodated each addition as another part of her Donovan army. That all changed when the fire nation attacked...

When her parents died, she seemed the least affected of all of her siblings. Her need for concrete facts dissolved her belief that those immortal being could ever leave them. When their lifestyle had to adjust for the loss of their guardians is when she became a hellion. She was even more unruly now than previously, she demanded to see where they had died. She refused to believe it until Cian convinced her and she saw Loughlin. Cian and [LIST OTHER SIBLING THAT WANTS TO BE A CALMING EFFECT ON HER] were the only ones that could calm her frequent tantrums for the week following the incident.

In light of the other’s struggles, it was like a switch had been flipped: she perked up. Chloe promised herself that she would carry the heavy weight of her sibling’s sorrows as best as she could, and smothered them with her suffocating love… helping them seemed to take away the sting of her abrupt familial loss. As soon as she was thrust into this foreign school with her uncles-for-fathers now, she threw herself into anything and everything that would keep her industrious and away from exploring the hollow ache in her heart.

Late one evening at Ilvermorny, she suffered from the backlash of holding it all in; she secretly muddied her gorgeous locks of dark brown hair to a rebellious blue-blue-green overnight. Her brothers and sisters attending school discovered at breakfast what she’d done. And yet, the pain of her parent’s deaths weren’t... unbearable. It was obvious to Chloe that her brothers and sisters were struggling harder than she. Was something wrong with her?
