Character Age: 14
Blood Type: Mixed blood
Please list any other characters you have on our site: Liam, Kellen, Ayla, Milo and Ophelia

Physical Appearance: Tāne is of Māori descent, and looks the part. He has tan skin, a muscular/athletic build, thick dark hair, and brown eyes. Freckles are splashed across his broad nose, and the rest of his face. His crooked smile seems to be ever present and Tāne can usually be found in shorts and jandles, if he's wearing shoes at all. The only accessory he wears regularly is his greenstone Toki pounamu necklace.

Personality: Tāne is a very "go with the flow" kind of guy. He doesn't anger easily, but would much rather have everyone get along. He doesn't like confrontation, despite being born of warrior blood. He's positive and upbeat, trying to find the silver lining in any situation. Tāne is approachable and makes friends easily, which is helpful given his current status as a transfer student. He is very close to his father, having lost his mother at a young age, and their relationship is also one of mutual respect and friendship.

Talents/Hobbies/Skills: Water is definitely Tāne's element. Swimming, surfing, canoeing, cliff diving; if there is water involved, he's likely into it, or willing to try it. He loves most athletic pursuits and the outdoors. He's also a decent cook and considers himself to be quite handy when it comes to fixing things.

Brief History: Tānekaha Wanui was born on December 24th during the hottest summer in recent memory. His mother Arona was ill at the time, and delivered him five weeks early. She and his father Nikau decided to name him Tānekaha, which translates from Te reo as "strong man" and also happens to be the name of the New Zealand celery pine. Their wish was for their son to grow up tall and strong, just like the tree he was named for, and he did.

Arona, however, passed away due to illness when her only child was three years old. A south Islander by birth, Nikau decided to keep his young son in the Northern village of Waipoua where his mother's family still lived. Nikau has studied wandmaking well before the birth of his son. It was his passion, but also required him to travel frequently. He wanted Tāne to be raised in the way of their ancestors, but also get to know his mother through her family.

Tāne was largely raised by his Grandmother, but Nikau visited regularly. He was surrounded by family and had lots of cousins to play with, so though he missed his father, he never wanted for companionship.

As he grew up and started school, he found it easy to make friends and did well in his lessons. He received regular owls from his father, telling him how his wand research was coming, and often containing souvenirs from his travels. Tāne was on his school's Quidditch Team and even landed a girlfriend his third year.

It was then that he received a letter from his father announcing that he'd been approved to continue his wandcrafting pilgrimage in North America, and asking if he'd like to join him. This meant leaving his school, his village, and his family, but he'd be able to join his father on his journey during the summer and on breaks from school. Tāne couldn't resist the offer of an adventure.
