For years Ayumu had wanted some sort of creature or animal companion to keep him company through the rough times and the smooth but owing to the fact that they tended to move around so much, he'd never been allowed to get anything of his own and instead had to rely on the old owls that his parents had or more likely than not, one of the school owls that usually had no sense of direction or wasn't used to flying as long a distance as was needed of them. But finally, after so long and a lot of pestering Dai about it, he'd finally broken his brother down enough to the point that he was now allowed to own his very own pet. It was probably a strange and childish craving for a seventeen-year-old, but he had well and truly proved that he knew what he was doing, and so he was somewhat ready for his little adventure to begin. Ayumu was surprised that persuading anyone in his family to give up a little money, for something so small was interesting, especially since most of the family were into pismirism.

After eating breakfast and sorting out his medical potions and whatnot, he was finally ready to set out for the Menagerie. After the heatwave that they had experienced around the time of October, Alix was somewhat glad to have the rain showers because he could actually do things again without the pressure of getting dehydrated as easily as he did in the heat or even having to deal with getting sunburnt (yes, his skin tended to tan more than it burnt, but he was really conscious about not gaining too much sun exposure on his skin), after all his health was already up and down, so he didn't need any other problems.

There was one thing that he had almost forgotten about, while he lived in Brazil: the weather and how unpredictable it was. Ayumu had his mind set on getting an owl or a rat, cats being somewhat out of the question because of the fact that they're fur made him itch a little and he wasn't sure if he was allergic to them or not, but it was highly likely. He struggled through the light rain towards his final destination and hoped for the best, before physically opening the door.

"Ohayo!" Ayumu walked into the shop and called out lightly, before he headed towards accessory things for the different animals, he wasn't extremely sure what he was looking for, but for now that didn't seem like such a problem to him.

Misha idly stroked Lavender's back as he listened to the rain pound against the roof of the store. Would it ever end? Or would the rain wash the town away and down the mountain side? It would be wonderful, an unstoppable force of nature overcoming the pitiful work of man. It pulled forth a memory, from years ago, when he saw his first dragon. Creatures of such size and scale, bursting with raw power, the ultimate force of nature. Her greatest creation. Sadly, there were likely charms placed around the town to prevent such catastrophic flooding. And no dragon reserves.

Lavender hissed when Misha dug his fingers in shy of too deeply. The man pulled his hand away and fished around the counter for his book on dragon care. He had just found it when the door bell ran and something young sounding called out. The thing did look young, likely a student. "What do you want?" Misha said in what was possibly the worst customer service voice possible. He didn't really care if his customers were "satisfied" for not. They'll get whatever it was they needed and then they would leave.

Sensing something curious about the boy, Lavender trotted over to get a better look. The feline kept his distance, however, as he did not want to get wet.

Alix looked down at the cat/kneazle thing, already feeling as though his skin was about to itching like crazy. Yes, more than likely allergic and now there was no imagining it. Due to the rain outside and whatever background noise was common among in most shops, Ayumu was having a hard time focusing on and deciphering sound. "Uh sorry, did you say something?" While he asked the question, he gave the guy (who he presumed was the owner) the sign that he was partially deaf. He'd been distracted by the displays and now was confused about the matters at hand.

"Um, do you sell rats or owls?" Despite not fully knowing how to deal with the situation, Ayumu went for the cool and collected route. normally upon meeting new people, he was a little aloof, but that was due to no point of his own, but more to the way that he was brought up. "Cute Neko, by the way." He was just getting nervous and rambling about irrelevant things.

Well he was in a pet store of sorts, so honestly it was an easy question to ask, so he put it forward to the older guy. "Which is more recommendable between the two and which adapts to changes easier." Ayumu already knew that each one had their own good qualities and bad.

"Uh sorry, did you say something?" Misha scowled at that comment. Can't things pay attention? Then it did some kind of signal with its hands but Misha did not care enough to try and interpret it. "Um, do you sell rats or owls? Cute Neko, by the way." Neko? Misha ignored that word as it didn't sound derogatory towards Lavender. Who, by the way, seemed to have sensed the effect it had on the thing. The sleek cat slid closer and even rubbed once against its legs.

"I have both." Misha said in answer of the first question. Both were kept in the back. The owls in either large cages or on wooden perches and the rats in their own enclosures.

"Which is more recommendable between the two and which adapts to changes easier."

A good question. Misha. . . appreciated it when things asked questions rather than demand to see the pets. It showed that the things cared for the creatures they wished to adopt into their lives. "The rats are hardy and adaptable. Shorter lived than the owls but more intelligent. The owls, being magical, are good with change though they are not the best pets as they require sleep during the day and need to stretch their wings at night." Really, owls were quite dumb, something wizards seemed to forget as the owls they used were bred with magic to create their hardy mail deliverers. It was the magic that guided the birds to their destinations.

Misha stared at the thing long and hard for several moments before motioning for it to follow him. The man opened the backroom door and pointed towards the left-side wall where he kept a variety of rodents and smaller pets. The owls were further back in a shaded corner.

Alix sneezed violently as the Kneazle rubbed itself against his leg, he would have to disinfect his clothes afterwards just so that he could be sure that he wouldn't have any sort of reaction and so that he could control the symptoms that he was beginning to develop. He eyed the reactions of the shopkeeper closely, Ayumu needed to pay a little bit more attention so that he didn't miss anything, which was going to be hard depending on the noise level around the place and during interactions.

"Oh, cool. That's amazing." His eyes lit up at the mention of both, maybe later on if he had enough time and could get his brother to agree with his plans, then he might pick up another pet. Human company was all well and good, but sometimes he wished for the company of some sort of pet, if only so he could feel the softness that came with fur, feathers and scales.

"Ok, thank you." The information was handy to know, even if he had suspected as much, it was good to have it confirmation of such facts. "Are dietary supplements recommended for rats, like the way Cod-liver oil is for humans?" Alix wanted to get his facts straight before he committed to anything for definite, yes, he consulted a tone of books, but he wasn't having much luck in figuring out which was best and which wasn't. The only thing he knew about owls, was the fact that his mother's one kept waking him up with it's annoying tapping on glass. Alix thought that for now he would focus on a rat, even though they were small and maybe hard to care for, but he needed time to get used to caring for something that wasn't human.

Ayumu nodded before following. "Oh." He exclaimed in a quiet breath, he was in awe of the creatures contained there in the room, he was always in a little surprised whenever he saw such pretty sights. "They're lovely, all of them..." He made his way to the indicated area after he had complimented the other things held in there.

Lavender chuckled in that cat way, (which was not so much of a chuckle as it was a smug look), and slunk off to find a nice spot for his afternoon nap. It was for the best as Misha had to put wards around the rodents to keep them safe from the smart cat. The young thing continued to ask questions and Misha answered as he felt. Quality rat food was sold in his store, like the nutritionally balanced block food and a few fresh foods preserved with magic. "Dietary supplements shouldn't be necessary as long as you feed your rat a proper and varied diet. I have a pamphlet on what rodents eat and how much."

From under the counter he pulled out a little organizer box filled with various pamphlets. They were a left over from the previous owner and Misha liked their contents so he kept them. The ones about rodents was pulled out and pushed forward. "I have a few supplements for rodents. I don't think I have any specific for rats, but I can order some."

"They're lovely, all of them..." The young thing went to look at his stock and it seemed honestly interested in being a good owner. Misha stood back and let the young thing look for as long as it pleased. He kept a wide variety of rats including two magical breeds. There were two Drummer Rats. A breed that was rabbit and rat magically crossbred with each other. They were white with brown splotches and had long furred ears (like a rabbit) and a round cotton-like tail. His other magical breed was a singular Garden Rat. That rat was bred to be the size of a small rabbit, given a venomous bite, and a voracious appetite for garden pests and bugs.

The latter was not sold as a pet, nor would it make for a good companion. Those rats were bred to live outside in a magical garden and to keep it safe. One of Misha's current projects was to provide some for the school to use in their greenhouses. He didn't think his Garden Rat was happy in its current lodgings, and wanted to find a proper home for it fast.

Ayumu Mori and Jonathan Lucas because would you like a Garden Rat? lol

Alix watched the cat go off in that strange catlike way, didn't they get tired of doing that sort of stuff? Though sometimes it was good to have those fluffy little muffins around. He couldn't really say what their personalities were really like, because of the aforementioned allergy. "Oh, ok cool. I wasn't too sure about that." By the sounds of it, he still had a lot of reading to do, but it didn't bother him too much, if he was going to be completely responsible for this animal, then it was real stuff that he needed to be aware of.

"Oh, do you need a deposit for those supplements?" Ayumu reached into his pocket and pulled out the small bag that he had in there, for right now money wasn't a problem for him, even if things were bad with his family. He was grateful for the fact that he already had a pretty stable job, even though he was still in school.

From a young age, Alix had loved animals (perks of growing up on a farm), so the idea of being able to own a pet again. He smiled watching the rats jumping about and becoming over excited, when he spotted an all white one with really cute big black eyes staring at him. The only one that had stopped to try and take in every detail.
