Caleb felt nervous, he had never been on a proper date before. His father had banned any of them from dating, for his usual stupid reasons, which drove Cal mad sometimes. But the worst part of it, meant that they had to keep any type of relationships a secret from him. Caleb had first met Hazel at a Halloween concert in New York. It took a while, but she finally confessed to something that her grandparents had found rather embarrassing. "My parents are squibs, they think that it embarrasses my grandparents, because only some of their children have any magical ability." He hadn't known it at the time, but despite what Hazel had thought of them then, she would eventually become thankful for them in the end. Hazel always seemed to give him a strange warm feeling whenever they were around each other, which he probably needed at the time. He was only out of the hospital when they had first met, but it had turned out to be the best Halloween, he had ever had. It had been a while since he had fully felt like himself, he hadn't even realised that he was as sick as he was. Cal had been way too stuck in his own head that he didn't realise how much he had been hurting his family.

He could remember the night of their first date, Tom had been making fun of him and joking about where not to put his broomstick, he had known that letting him in just a little, would end up in a total disaster. Cal knew that he meant well and was trying to ease the tension, but it just made him feel more nervous and as though he was going to slip back into his old ways, which wasn't an option because he was on a road to self-destruction. Many of his doctor's thought that dating was a bad idea, because the stress of it all could set him back, it was all too stressful, there were too many rules and he felt like he was about to explode. He had had a full-on panic attack and it had taken him over two hours to calm down. He had felt happy and hadn't experienced much stress, but the very idea of hanging out with someone he barely knew at the time. The heart-racing panic attacks often felt worse than the extreme bouts of depression, everything seemed as though it was amplified.

He thought about cancelling everything and hiding under his bed, but what good would that do? Wasn't he supposed to be pushing himself to do new things? Of course, there was nothing to worry about... the worst thing that happened was that he managed to spill a jug of water over himself and he got hit in the face with a pie.

A Strange Letter- February 14th

Cal hated anything to do with Valentine's normally, it was one of those strange holidays that seemed to grow every year and most of the time was taken too seriously for his liking. But there he was at what felt like the center of things, he'd debated trying to find a bunch of wildflowers and sending them to Poppy every day until Valentine's, but that wasn't possible because of the weather, and knew that he would be in big trouble if he tried to take any from the Herbology classroom. It probably would have cost too much to buy a bunch and then on top of that there was the problem of trying to keep them alive in the meantime. His funding from his grandparents hadn't arrived yet, which in itself was strange, it near enough always came on time every month. The Trust fund had been set up in Gringotts shortly after the death of his mother, it had always been her wish to support her children even if she wasn't the one there to do it herself. So even if he wanted to try and buy himself something that he needed, he couldn't even afford anything, his gold bag was getting rather low.

In the end he just settled for writing a cheesy poem to Poppy, along with getting one of those carnations, it was really the only thing that he could do without going over the top or over thinking things. Plus at least one thing was a lot better than nothing. He didn't care if he got a Valentine's gift or not, it didn't bother him in anyway.

Cal sat cross-legged on his bed, he'd taken the day off studying, just so that he could destress. He'd finally managed to get a new bass, and he really wanted to check it out and get used to it, most of his money from the last month had gone on it. He'd been saving up for the last couple of months after he'd accidently broke his last one, but it had cost more than he'd thought it would. Cal really missed his electric one that he had at home, and kind of hated the fact that he had to depend on an acoustic bass.

Cal jumped, he had been startled by the noise of an owl crashing into the closed window. It was a strange time for post to arrive, it was almost the middle of the afternoon. If someone had wanted to get in touch with him, why hadn't it arrived at breakfast? He opened the window gently so as not to hurt or scare the bird. The owl hopped in and stretched out it's leg for him to take the letter. He recognised the small brown barn owl as Artemis, which meant that the letter was important... Why else would he be getting something from his uncle? Aedan never sent him anything or even wrote to him for that matter.

He fumbled with the envelop with shaking hands, the whole idea of the letter made him nervous. Cal hoped that his grandparents were alright, if anything bad had happened to them, wouldn't he or Danni already know about it? It wasn't something that could be kept from them, was it? He unfolded the letter, he instinctively recognised his grandfather's handwriting.

"Aedan has been arrested, the family are being monitored for now. All family funding has been frozen for the time being. I can't go into too much detail right now; the case is on a need to know basis.
Don't worry about it too much, everything will work itself out in the end.

Love Granddad
P.S. I'm sorry."

Well that explained the bird, but how wasn't he supposed to worry? He had no way of supporting himself at all now, that money was the only way that Danni and himself could live in the wizarding world, without getting help from Bex or Tom and they couldn't depend on them for everything. They'd both gotten full access to their funds when they turned seventeen, so they wouldn't be as affected by it. Cal felt a sinking feeling in his heart, what on earth were they going to do now? What had the world come to now that even Auror's were being arrested?

Poppy Everheart for the mention
