Caleb felt nervous, he had never been on a proper date before. His father had banned any of them from dating, for his usual stupid reasons, which drove Cal mad sometimes. But the worst part of it, meant that they had to keep any type of relationships a secret from him. Caleb had first met Hazel at a Halloween concert in New York. It took a while, but she finally confessed to something that her grandparents had found rather embarrassing. "My parents are squibs, they think that it embarrasses my grandparents, because only some of their children have any magical ability." He hadn't known it at the time, but despite what Hazel had thought of them then, she would eventually become thankful for them in the end. Hazel always seemed to give him a strange warm feeling whenever they were around each other, which he probably needed at the time. He was only out of the hospital when they had first met, but it had turned out to be the best Halloween, he had ever had. It had been a while since he had fully felt like himself, he hadn't even realised that he was as sick as he was. Cal had been way too stuck in his own head that he didn't realise how much he had been hurting his family.

He could remember the night of their first date, Tom had been making fun of him and joking about where not to put his broomstick, he had known that letting him in just a little, would end up in a total disaster. Cal knew that he meant well and was trying to ease the tension, but it just made him feel more nervous and as though he was going to slip back into his old ways, which wasn't an option because he was on a road to self-destruction. Many of his doctor's thought that dating was a bad idea, because the stress of it all could set him back, it was all too stressful, there were too many rules and he felt like he was about to explode. He had had a full-on panic attack and it had taken him over two hours to calm down. He had felt happy and hadn't experienced much stress, but the very idea of hanging out with someone he barely knew at the time. The heart-racing panic attacks often felt worse than the extreme bouts of depression, everything seemed as though it was amplified.

He thought about cancelling everything and hiding under his bed, but what good would that do? Wasn't he supposed to be pushing himself to do new things? Of course, there was nothing to worry about... the worst thing that happened was that he managed to spill a jug of water over himself and he got hit in the face with a pie.

A Strange Letter- February 14th

Cal hated anything to do with Valentine's normally, it was one of those strange holidays that seemed to grow every year and most of the time was taken too seriously for his liking. But there he was at what felt like the center of things, he'd debated trying to find a bunch of wildflowers and sending them to Poppy every day until Valentine's, but that wasn't possible because of the weather, and knew that he would be in big trouble if he tried to take any from the Herbology classroom. It probably would have cost too much to buy a bunch and then on top of that there was the problem of trying to keep them alive in the meantime. His funding from his grandparents hadn't arrived yet, which in itself was strange, it near enough always came on time every month. The Trust fund had been set up in Gringotts shortly after the death of his mother, it had always been her wish to support her children even if she wasn't the one there to do it herself. So even if he wanted to try and buy himself something that he needed, he couldn't even afford anything, his gold bag was getting rather low.

In the end he just settled for writing a cheesy poem to Poppy, along with getting one of those carnations, it was really the only thing that he could do without going over the top or over thinking things. Plus at least one thing was a lot better than nothing. He didn't care if he got a Valentine's gift or not, it didn't bother him in anyway.

Cal sat cross-legged on his bed, he'd taken the day off studying, just so that he could destress. He'd finally managed to get a new bass, and he really wanted to check it out and get used to it, most of his money from the last month had gone on it. He'd been saving up for the last couple of months after he'd accidently broke his last one, but it had cost more than he'd thought it would. Cal really missed his electric one that he had at home, and kind of hated the fact that he had to depend on an acoustic bass.

Cal jumped, he had been startled by the noise of an owl crashing into the closed window. It was a strange time for post to arrive, it was almost the middle of the afternoon. If someone had wanted to get in touch with him, why hadn't it arrived at breakfast? He opened the window gently so as not to hurt or scare the bird. The owl hopped in and stretched out it's leg for him to take the letter. He recognised the small brown barn owl as Artemis, which meant that the letter was important... Why else would he be getting something from his uncle? Aedan never sent him anything or even wrote to him for that matter.

He fumbled with the envelop with shaking hands, the whole idea of the letter made him nervous. Cal hoped that his grandparents were alright, if anything bad had happened to them, wouldn't he or Danni already know about it? It wasn't something that could be kept from them, was it? He unfolded the letter, he instinctively recognised his grandfather's handwriting.

"Aedan has been arrested, the family are being monitored for now. All family funding has been frozen for the time being. I can't go into too much detail right now; the case is on a need to know basis.
Don't worry about it too much, everything will work itself out in the end.

Love Granddad
P.S. I'm sorry."

Well that explained the bird, but how wasn't he supposed to worry? He had no way of supporting himself at all now, that money was the only way that Danni and himself could live in the wizarding world, without getting help from Bex or Tom and they couldn't depend on them for everything. They'd both gotten full access to their funds when they turned seventeen, so they wouldn't be as affected by it. Cal felt a sinking feeling in his heart, what on earth were they going to do now? What had the world come to now that even Auror's were being arrested?

Poppy Everheart for the mention

A True Troll is the way to anyone's heart
Run ins with weird ghosts, not so fun, but bearable despite his fear of them. It was at least the least stressful part of his term so far, though he was pretty sure that it had made his dreams about his mother's ghost happen more frequently, which he did not like. Problems with relationships, yep Cal had that in buckets, so he couldn't wait for the summer to finally start.

When Cal returned from the bathroom, after showering and brushing his teeth, he found an odd present sitting on his almost packed trunk: a stuffed toy Penguin. He hadn't seen it in a good while and had almost thought that he'd lost it. Cal had a strong feeling that Danni had kidnapped it or something unlikely like one of the freaky ghosts had stolen it. Even at sixteen he was kind of a wimp without his stuffed Penguin, it was like his good luck charm without having anything like that connected to it. Even though it was a ratty old toy, it still meant the world to him because he'd had it since the day he was born.

Officially Cal had been studying for the exams lightly since Christmas and then rather harshly from Easter onwards, he knew how crazy that probably sounded to other people, but it was the best he could actually do given the timeframe and how much work the exams were going to require. Needless to say, if he didn't have a pile of sugary treats to keep himself company, then he would have had a lot of problems.

Sitting around waiting for your name to be called for an exam was horribly boring and nerve wracking, why anyone thought that was a good idea, he had no clue.

Cal didn't really feel as comfortable with the written parts of the exams, in a rush his handwriting became almost unreadable and his shoulder would be aching by the end of it. Considering how he wasn't allowed to use his scribe quill to answer his written exam, then he didn't know how his slow writing would cope. The quill was like his life-saver in class, and he just about knew that in the Muggle world some people were given extra time to do their exams.

Everything seemed to be going ok, or at least they were, until he fell asleep in the middle of his Muggle Studies exam. Too much sugar and not enough sleep seemed to have caused some annoying things to happen. The use of sugar, though completely unhealthy, if large amounts were consumed at once. But having a condition where your brain liked sugar because it allowed the body to keep up with everything, just even for a little bit, also had its draw backs.

Cal got a start when the exam results arrived during the summer holidays. He ran to his room to open up the small thing that held the rest of his life in its words. He breathed a sigh of relief as he realised that it wasn't as bad as he'd feared, though he would be avoiding revealing any of this to his twin sister, who he was currently not talking to.

Run for cover-Mid November
A little rain was nothing, yes it would be harder to fly in but it was better than excessive heat and the unbearable fog (wind wasn't too bad, so he didn't count it). Cal had little choice but to train in the rain, he feared the other elements that the weather had in store. Maybe it would be like the old winter storms they got at home, well not New York, not any of the states really, but his first home, his true home in Ireland. "Are you ready or should we leave it for now, see if the weather gets better?" Alix asked, as he played around with a tennis ball. The older boy had mentioned before that, he kind of hated flying in the rain, so they'd only have a little time to do everything.

The pair of them had only known each other for a short time, in fact they'd only met in the summer at the Bloomsday party that Danni had hosted at the flat (she had tried flirting with Alix, but she'd tell you otherwise). "Are we starting at the same time then?" He wondered if they were going to simulate that part of an actual match or not. Through these little practices and other stuff, he had gotten much better at flying and had a fair bit more balance now, then when he had first started out. "No, that would be a bit too much to ask for in this sort of weather. You go up to the goal posts and I'll enchant some of these to fly at you, like Bludgers and I'll try to get a few past you too." Cal had noticed that Alix had taken out his hearing aid, he had never known if it worked or not, but he hoped that this small thing wouldn't affect things.

What the?-Morning after the formal
Cal felt like he was missing out a little, it was the first year that he had decided to spend the Christmas holidays at school, but he kind of had to do it to be away from Danni (he didn't want to be punched again, that had been the start of their fight, after he'd tried to talk her out of so much partying). This meant that his grandmother was mad because of his choice, but considering how well the twins had become at avoiding each other, he felt like it was the right thing to do. Cal had woken up early the morning after the formal, he was in a little bit of pain from the fall the night before and his hand was still bothering him after the explosion. But it was to face the music and see what sort of punishment Professor Chambers had in store for him.

It was a little too quiet when he walked into the common room, but that really wasn't that unexpected when you considered that most people were going home today. Cal pulled out a packet of biscuits that he had put in his pocket and took a bite out of it, he was skipping breakfast that morning to avoid the crowd and he'd grab something better later on in the day. He looked at some of the paper things that were scattered around the tables. He looked up at the sound of a door opening and jumped as the guy made his way over to him, he had no idea what the heck was going on, he didn't even know the other guy. but he saw mistletoe which freaked him out a lot.

"What exactly are you going to do with that?" Whatever it was for Cal wasn't about to be a test subject for it. Going off height measurements and stuff, he reckoned that he could take the other boy if he needed too. "It's not what you think it is, I forgot my papers and need them." Oh, he breathed out a sigh of relief, he'd completely gotten the wrong end of the stick, when he'd noticed the berries. Cal looked closer at the papers that he'd found, it was a diagram of a crown and the main feature was the mistletoe berries, now everything clicked.

(Lydia Chambers and Jemma Bishop for the mentions)
